About Heliview Flights

We are a boutique family run helicopter company with over 35 years experience. With plenty of helicopter companies jostling for space in search results and your social media feed it can be hard to work out which is best.

Our difference lies in our people, service and truly local knowledge – with us the experience is personal from start to finish.

Here at Heliview Flights we have an unblemished safety record and actively work to comply with and exceed international aviation and tourism standards in safety, compliance and our environmental impact.

We are Qualmark endorsed and were the first New Zealand helicopter company to hold a Qualmark Enviro-Silver award! Ensuring we run a sustainable business means everything - to us it is simply part of the quality we offer our customers.

Meet The Team Behind The (Mountain) Scenes

Your Chief Pilot

Richard Foale, your chief pilot, is the CEO of Heliview Flights and has over 35 years of helicopter flying experience, so you are in safe hands.

A man of many talents, Richard is also our chief photographer, ready to capture your experience, so that you can relax and enjoy the moment.

Richard's flying career officially started when he was commissioned into the British Army Air Corps, but his love for aviation was nurtured at an early age while flying with his father in Africa.

He has since worked in many aviation roles, including police, air ambulance, aerial filming, VIP charter and tourism.

The Boss

Jolanda Foale is here to look after you from start to finish. From when you first give us a call or make a booking she can help you with everything from designing your perfect flight to pouring you a glass of bubbly in the mountains.

Our Chief Guide and behind-the-scenes boss can also guide your heli-bike adventure and talk you through the best heli-dine experiences Central Otago has to offer.

Her Swiss hospitality knows no bounds. She has a BSc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management from GIHE in Switzerland, grounding her years of experience in supporting your journey.

Our Support Crew

Daughter Safi (13) has very much grown up with the business. She loves to welcome guests onto the premises, makes sure that everyone has a set of ear muffs and plays with visiting children on the giant Snakes and Ladders table.

She's also growing into being a great photographer and loves coming on flights when the opportunity arises.

Our huntaway dog Hitch loves going for a run with Richard every day and playing in the snow.

A huntaway is a New Zealand sheep dog breed, though he prefers hunting rabbits on the airfield and takes his official title of "Boarder and Sniff Patrol" very serious.

Where We Are & Where It All Began

We operate our unique helicopter tours from the Cromwell Racecourse Aerodrome and hold our own New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority Pt 135 helicopter air operators certificate (legal name 'Heliview Taranaki Ltd').

Richard and Jolanda Foale are the founders of Heliview Flights. They started Heliview Flights in Taranaki (New Zealand's North Island) in 2005, and in 2014 moved to Cromwell, Central Otago (New Zealand's South Island) for a change in lifestyle and to explore the mountains!
